What We’re Doing
Hands-on learning in restoration, birding, and leadership to inspire coastal advocacy.

The Coastal Leadership Program is a free 91°µÍø program geared towards supporting the next generation of coastal stewards in LA County. Participants gain leadership skills, contribute to environmental solutions, and build community through the joy of birding.

Through a diverse range of opportunities to learn new things - from hands-on habitat restoration for endangered shorebirds, to enjoying birdwatching and community building – participants will gain a well-rounded understanding of the challenges coastal ecosystems face and participate in some incredible solutions being implemented.

Our mission is to foster a safe, inclusive environment where participants can explore their passions, be part of a supportive community dedicated to making a difference, and acquire the skills needed to address the impacts of climate change on coastal habitats.

Program Details
  • Must be 20-29 years old.
  • Based in LA County.
  • Willingness to learn and be a respectful team player.
  • Commit to participate and engage in activities for the entire length of the program.
  • BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and folks from communities that do not see themselves well represented in the conservation field are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Interest in coastal birds, conservation, and advocacy. Participants are not required to have experience in these fields - all levels of experience are welcome!
  • Participate in 2 Tuesday evening sessions each month at the 91°µÍø Center at Debs Park. Dinner Provided
  • Attend 4 Saturday field trips. Transportation + Lunch Provided
  • Participate in hands-on restoration activities.
  • Complete a capstone project.
  • Receive a stipend upon the completion of the program.
  • Become experienced in leadership skills including public speaking, interviewing, and facilitation.
  • Gain bird identification skills.
  • Develop confidence and experience in a diverse range of coastal issues and restoration efforts.
  • Get professional networking opportunities.
  • Join a community of bird enthusiasts and passionate change makers!
