Explore trails, gardens of native wildflowers, Randall Davey’s historic estate and orchard, or our new Nature Discovery Area, just a few miles from downtown Santa Fe. Bounded by thousands of acres of national forest and Santa Fe River watershed land, the Center provides a peaceful sanctuary for native plants, local wildlife, and visitors. More than 190 bird species have been reported at Randall Davey 91°µÍø Center over the years.
The center is closed the month of January, and observes most major holidays. This includes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Indigenous People's Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
Our trails lead through several different habitats and plant zones ranging from meadows to Ponderosa Pine forests. Bring your binoculars and cameras, but please leave your dogs at home.
Santa Fe’s only nature center has an unexpected artistic past. Every Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. take a trip back in time and join a docent-led tour of the historic Davey House and Studio, preserved in its original state from the mid 1900’s. Keep an eye out for original furnishings, mural paintings and the prohibition-era hidden bar!
Join us at the Randall Davey 91°µÍø Center and Sanctuary every Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. for a guided bird walk led by experienced volunteer birders. The walk is one of the best ways to get to know the local birds. For both experienced and novice birders, you’re sure to discover new species and witness them in their natural habitat. Binoculars are available to borrow. All experience levels welcome. No RSVP required.
Check out our Haiku Trail, a series of poems written by local poets and community members. Each haiku was written in the spot where it was installed, referencing the natural elements of its unique location. This "trail" covers 0.25 miles, over mostly flagstone and brick pathways. The last few poems are up a few steps towards our acequia.
Our friendly volunteers are happy to share maps, birding tips, and help you navigate your visit. We also have a variety of gifts for sale, including bird guides, books, locally made artisan crafts, t-shirts, and more! The visitor center is typically open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but we still have some gaps in our volunteer coverage. We appreciate your patience.
The Nature Discovery Area is an outdoor play space for families, students, campers, and the community on the southern end of the property. The goal of this project is to provide Santa Fe families with a place to get outside and explore nature together. We hope that users will enjoy playing in the treehouse, as well as constructing forts, digging in the sand, wildlife viewing, having a picnic, exploring our , and whatever else they can imagine.
The play area is currently open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 91°µÍø Center and Discovery Area are closed on holidays and occasional special events.
While we love having you, your family events, and birthday parties at the Nature Discovery Area, there are times we are closed to due to private events, holidays, or maintenance. To avoid disappointment, we ask that if you please contact us at newmexico@audubon.org to confirm that the area is open on your chosen date, and also check our Facebook page or this website for closures.
We have worked with a handful of amazing, creative contractors to develop the NDA including , , and . The was completed by Bonsai Design in July 2021. This project was made possible by a variety of community members who donated in support of nature play. Major support comes from the Brindle Foundation, Dumke Foundation, and more. We are still raising funds to help finalize additional play elements, as well as support public programming in the space. If you are a formal organized group, or bringing more than eight people, please contact us at newmexico@audubon.org with your plans to visit. Two-week notice is preferred. Please submit your request before formalizing your plan with your participants. Our parking lot is very small and cannot accommodate multiple events and group visits on the same day. Please carpool as much as possible. There is no fee for visiting with a group, but we appreciate a donation to help support the center.
